It wasn't me that caused the 404 for the last few days. It was portland themselves. Some kind of database corruption from what I've read. As I expected, it fixed itself without me needing to upload anything at all. (Though as luck did have it, I had backed it up after the last update (I save all updates locally, but not usually the files generated on the server))

I had an update to post on sunday, but didn't write it down so it's lost forever. Bubblegub Crisis Tokyo 2040 episode 11 captured fine just fine. I've got hold of 3 new episodes of South Park (501, 505, 506). I got bored so I downloaded Debian 2.2r3 cd images. Technically I only needed the first one, but why stop a good thing I say so I've got all 3 binary disks. I'm rsyncing right now to make a local mirror (for who knows what reason, something about a Pseudo image kit and the next release ...)

I tried to repartition bluemidgit on the fly last night, it worked, but didn't. From what I can tell, the partition table that the kernel see's can't be update when the disk is in use, and since it's mounted as the root filesystem it won't be changed. However the partition table on the disk did get updated. I didn't want to reboot it to get it updated (why stop a good thing?), so all I ended up doing was defragmenting the partitions, probably not a bad outcome, but I wanted to merge two of the to make up enough space for the debian mirror. I'll make do using symlinks. Just a tip, never, and I mean NEVER use an auto partitioning scheme with less than a 20 gig drive, it's just not worth the trouble later. (In this case, 308 days later)

I did a kickass rip of Titan AE using Divx4, I'm playing with Evangelion and divx 4 too. I'm out of blank cd's though :(

I've done it

Netcraft has splat.dyns.cx (AKA bluemidgit) listed in a top sites for listing. I'm under top sites for iiNet technologies (because thats where I dial into). Currently number 17 on the overall listing (due to there being no average which is beacuse it hasn't been tracked by them for more than 90 days), though I'm number 1 when ordered by maximum =) Bluemidgit's uptime hit 300 days around noon today.

Space Cowboys divx 4 rip is very nice at 638Meg, tomorrow I'll do it again to see if I can get it closer to 700 without overshooting.

Short and sweet, I've done it =)

I've been playing Tribes 2, I'm thinking of buying it. It's fun.

I've found another linux dial up router firewall type thingie. This time, Coyote Linux. It's a single disk one, no hard drive necessary. Just get a 486 DX with 12Mb of ram, 1 network card and a modem (for conventional dialup) or 2 networks cards (for PPPoe access) and off you go. If your running Windows I recommend getting the Windows Installer. Lets just say it's really easy, just about as easy as setting up dial up networking in Windows, if not easier. It's not as user friendly as Smoothwall but it's a lot smaller.

OpenDivx 4 Beta has my tick of approval, get it. It includes a decoder for DivX ;-) 3 so you no longer need both. (The decoder is an activeX one, so it probably only works in Windows Media Player or similar player, not Virtual dub which uses the codec to decode.)

My brother brought round Space Cowboys on dvd, I ripped, and will DivX tomorrow. Back to uni tomorrow...

I've been without phone and subsequent net connection for 3 days now. One good thing about this is it has given me time to myself (within reason) to watch, repair and burn divx rips from the recent lan party madness. I went into town on Sunday to report the fault, it's now Tuesday. I was told there would be someone out by close of business Wednesday to look into the problem. All I can say is I sincerely hope Telstra have better luck expanding into rural Asia than they did expanding into rural Australia.

Full screen Divx rips can look damn fine, and damn horrible. Luckily I only scored some of the bad variety and many of the damn fine type. I've been spending my time checking for errors, fixing the errors and burning them. Lets just say that spindle pack is depleting itself rather quickly. On the plus side, I've scored some free disk space so I can do more rips. Better encourage my brother to bring some dvd's around sometime.

I had a quick look into my tax this morning, just the basics, no deductions or anything, and I think I'll be getting at least $6.50 back this year, that's right tree huggers, I'm not paying in this year, which I thought I'd have to so I'd been saving for it.

Last week sometime (when the net was working) I noticed this ftp server login message: 220 ready, dude (vsFTPd 0.9.0 (BETA): beat me, break me) That came to me from ftp.rpmfind.net.

The Simpsons is not on WinTv anymore at 18.30. They put Neighbours back on sigh. That was monday, its now on at 19.00 which is just as bad because thats when the news is on.

Between phone troubles, DNS problems and so on, this is late, but life goes on. Anti-trust is a good movie, it's go the cheesy bits like Hackers but better overall I think.

Other things of interest, DivX 4 is now in beta, the message hit the mailing list this morning. Improvements include; 4 times speed increase in the encoder, more quality and speed improvements in the decoder and lots more. I'm downloading it now.
